Canada Day dawned bright and hot again this year and we set out ridiculously early to catch the last of Derek's 10K race and to prepare for the girls' races.
Ingrid loves participating in this race. She's been looking forward to it for a long time.
Elodie was excited, too! A huge difference from last year when she cried and made Derek carry her the whole way. Danica did that this time, instead.
A tot trot finisher!
And another one!
Run, Ingrid, Run!
She gets it. She totally gets it. She doesn't finish first and she doesn't care. She likes having fun.
Then we played on the play structures for a bit where we saw security and police officers combing the grounds looking for a missing child. I hate that. It's so unsettling.
Bouncy houses are always fun for them now.
It got late and they were tired and hungry so we went home for some lunch and a nap for Danica. We planned to go out again in the afternoon to a smaller fair in Stittsville but it got rained out. See?
It stayed that way for the rest of the day. We went back to the Walter Baker park in the evening to watch the fireworks but it was the pits. Too many teenagers, too much smoke, too much wet ground.
So we left. Danica hitched a ride with her favourite guy and carried her favourite treat, cotton candy.
On the advise of a friend, we went to the Lowe's parking lot and watched the fireworks from there in the comfort of our minivan. Perfect.
