It's been more than 20 years since the last time I set foot at the Regatta. It's never been my thing and I avoided it for years and years. But since we were "home" at the right time and had three little girls who were eager to go, I went. And they made it fun for me, finally, for the first time in a very long time.
They always seem to manage to finagle some cotton candy out of us.
Pony rides have become their "must-do" activity at fairs now. I don't mind a bit.
Elodie jigged a few reels on the banks of the Quidi Vidi with her $5 blow-up alien that she had to have. (These next two are videos, Mom. Press the arrow in the middle!)
I always dread lunch time with my girls when we are not at home or near a place where I know I can get food they all like and will eat (Hello Tim Hortons and Subway!). And now that Ingrid, who formerly loved hotdogs but now hates them, threw a wrench into our hotdog plans we were up a creek with three hungry children who needed to be feed NOW!
We got the hotdogs for Elodie and Danica but Ingrid couldn’t think of a thing she wanted. At all. We suggested this and then that and this one more time. But all no thank-you. Finally I spotted a lady selling toutons and knew I had hit the lunch time jackpot. Ingrid had just eaten toutons at Grandma Di’s house a few days before and really liked them. So, for lunch at the Regatta, Ingrid had toutons and I praised the touton gods for the lady selling them that day. She ate two and then said that while they were good, Grandma Di’s were better. Brownie points for Ingrid.
Then there's always an outstanding request to go down the giant, inflatable slides.
I was so happy they wanted to try their luck at some games!
And, of course, there’s the ever-present lure of face-painting. Wherever she goes, Ingrid always manages to find them. Elodie wasn’t interested in having her face painted but she did get some fishes painted on her hands. Ingrid went all in and had what she always asks for, a turtle, painted on her face. I was very impressed with the artist. She did a wonderful job.
One more round on the inflatables and that’s a wrap on Regatta 2016!
