We didn't have a lot of Trick-or-Treaters last year so we thought we might not have to buy too much this year - so we didn't. But then we thought about it and figured maybe the low turn out might have something to do with the fact that we were still moving in on Hallowe'en. So after work Derek went to the store to buy some double bubble gum and these gum eyeballs. I was not impressed, figuring we already had the stuff Hallowe'en dreams were made of - cheezies and chocolate bars. But Derek wanted to add his own special touch and I was sure we'd be left with a big bag of eyeballs at the end of the night. However, I was really surprised. Derek did the honors of handing out the treats this year. So everytime he opened the door he'd give all the children, no matter how big or small, a choice. He'd say "Do you want cheezies, chocolates or eyeballs?" And of course, he'd always say "eyeballs" with a dramatic flourish, like there some kind of magic candy. I was surprised by how many children shouted out "eyeballs", and with such glee mind you. Seems Derek really knows his kiddy candy! Anyone who didn't know what they wanted got all three.
We thought we too many treats. The bulk of our visitors didn't come until 7:30 which is when I always thought Hallowe'en was starting to wind down. So we took our own leisure of the candy pot, helping ourselves to some after supper delights. But before long we were almost running out. Turns out Derek was playing the one-for-you-two-for-me trick, treating himself to a hearty dose every time he answered the door! But we didn't run out. And all we have left are the bubble gum that are almost painful to eat, leave a horrible taste in your mouth but are so darn addictive anyway.
