Today is Derek's birthday and all he wanted was a double layer chocolate cake just like his mother used to make. Well I'm afraid to report that this cake was nothing like the ones Mrs. A used to make. It's the first time I ever made a double layer cake. I know it's not supposed to be difficut. But because Derek loves icing and begged me to use "lots" I used too much in the middle layer and therefore the top layer started to slide off. I managed to fill in the gap with icing but it didn't last long. Then I tried to do some fancy decorating on top, try making some fancy designs but I made so much chocolate icing I didn't have any icing sugar left to make another color for decorating. So instead I thought I'd add sprinkles. Derek likes them on donuts so I figured the more I could add to his cake the better he'd like it. Well, by the time I started with the sprinkles the icing had already started to harden and all the sprinkles bounced right off the cake and went all over the counter and floor. So I laid it in the sink and made a further mess. Oh well. It did taste good.
